The Cybersecurity Comfort Syndrome

The Cybersecurity Comfort Syndrome

Dealerships can develop a false sense of security by relying on an IT team, endpoint detection software, restricted email access and cyber insurance. These protections may not be enough against evolving threats, and insurance claims could be denied if required safeguards were not fully implemented. Proactive measures—such as attack deterrence, rapid threat detection, network-movement disruption and real-time visibility—can provide stronger protection.

Feeling protected is not the same as being protected. Dealership leaders should regularly test their defenses, confirm compliance with insurance requirements and ensure their technology and security vendors remain effective. Treating cybersecurity as an ongoing business priority can help prevent operational disruption, financial losses, exposed customer data and reputational damage.
