Employees may bypass cybersecurity rules to save time, close a sale or avoid inconvenient steps, making human behavior one of a dealership’s greatest vulnerabilities. Social-engineering scams, weak information-handling practices and skipped procedures can defeat advanced technical defenses. The risk also extends beyond digital systems to paper deal jackets, service records and worksheets containing sensitive personal and financial information.
Dealerships should combine strong security technology with clear accountability, recurring employee training and regular compliance audits. One or two managers should oversee security practices across every department, with refresher training conducted at least quarterly. Making secure processes practical and consistently enforced can protect customer data without sacrificing productivity or sales performance.
