Protecting Dealers from Cybercrimes & Data Hacks

Dealerships face cyber risks similar to those confronting large national retailers, yet many owners underestimate their likelihood of being targeted. Hackers increasingly probe network gateways and computer ports, while third-party connections to dealer management systems—such as CRM, data-mining and lead-generation tools—create additional paths to sensitive information. Basic antivirus and malware software are useful but may not stop more sophisticated attacks.

Dealership leaders should understand every connection to their systems, evaluate the security of third-party providers and strengthen protections before a breach occurs. Regular security assessments, employee training and more advanced monitoring can help uncover vulnerabilities and unauthorized access attempts. Acting proactively can reduce the likelihood of data loss, operational disruption, financial costs and reputational damage.
