Cybersecurity Isn’t My Job

Cybersecurity Isn’t My Job

Cybersecurity is not solely the responsibility of an IT department, managed-service provider or dealership system vendor. A breach can compromise data flowing through sales, service, F&I, accounting, banks and outside vendors, threatening the owner’s investment as well as the confidence of customers, employees and stakeholders. When responsibility is unclear, critical security decisions can fall through the cracks.

Dealership owners and senior executives must take direct responsibility for cybersecurity strategy, accountability and oversight. Leadership should ensure protections are actively managed, monitored by qualified people and capable of detecting and stopping attacks in real time. Making cybersecurity a C-suite priority helps protect sensitive data, business continuity, financial stability and the dealership’s long-term reputation.
